Architectural Digest

Every single detail in this Martha’s Vineyard home by @shelterprotectsyou was sourced not just for the tone it would set and the quality, but also the story: “One of the most important things with our firm is working with craftspeople. We don’t just love what they do—they’re also great community members,” designer Karie Reinertson says. Together, Karie and the other half of the firm, Rob Maddox, designed stunning custom pieces throughout the home—and in no room more so than the kitchen. Working with woodworker Eyrich Stauffer, the pair designed a giant kitchen island: The 4×10 slab of white oak is an inch and a half thick. “I feel like it’ll be here at the end of time,” says Rob. Hanging above is a cluster of turned wooden pendants that the pair also designed, fabricated by @alliedmaker, and the stools are by Hudson Valley-based @sawkillecompany.
